On 3 October 2024, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak held a graduation ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) to recognize the academic achievements of 279 graduates. This event signified the end of their higher education journeys, with degrees conferred in various disciplines.
Graduate Statistics
The graduates included 247 undergraduates, with degree recipients distributed across several fields: 127 in business, 50 in computing, 47 in engineering, 15 in design, five in science, and three in media and communication. In addition to the undergraduate degrees, five individuals earned Diplomas in Business Management, while one each was awarded a Graduate Diploma and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (International).
Master’s and Doctoral Degrees
The ceremony also celebrated the achievements of 18 master’s degree recipients, among whom were seven graduates holding a Master of Business Administration (International) and three with a Master of Construction Management Practice, along with additional degrees in engineering and information technology. Additionally, seven Doctor of Philosophy degrees were awarded, with four in engineering, two in business, and one in science.
Diversity of Graduates
Notably, 32 students were conferred their degrees in absentia during this graduation cycle. The diversity of the graduating class was evident, with students from various countries, including Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mauritius, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.
Valedictorian Message
Adeline Yong Qian Yi, the valedictorian and a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, shared her positive reflections on her time at Swinburne Sarawak. She expressed gratitude for the friendships she forged and noted her involvement in clubs and an exchange program that facilitated cultural experiences.
Ceremony Highlights
During her address to classmates, Yong encouraged her peers to look forward to the future while recognizing the efforts and challenges that led to their graduation. The ceremony was led by Professor Pascale Quester, Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology, who presented the awards.
