Accolades for UMD College of Education Faculty and Staff: Awards and Honors (Fall 2024)

Several faculty and staff members from the University of Maryland College of Education received awards and honors between September and mid-November 2024.

Awards and Honors for Faculty and Staff

Among the notable recipients are:

  • Pamela Callahan, Ph.D. ’24, a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Educational Innovation and Improvement, was awarded an Early Career Fellowship by the Education Law Association. This recognition is for her work focusing on the intersection of K-12 education and First Amendment rights.
  • Dana Grosser-Clarkson, Ph.D. ’16, an associate clinical professor in Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL), received the Outstanding College Educator Award from the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
  • Drew Fagan, a clinical professor in TLPL, has been elected to the Board of Directors for TESOL International Association for the 2025-28 term.
  • Melody Mann, a Ph.D. student in special education with Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE), was named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar. This program focuses on developing leadership among doctoral students addressing health disparities. Mann’s research emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly regarding Punjabi families engaging with early intervention services in special education.
  • Melinda Martin-Beltrán, an associate professor in TLPL, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Maryland TESOL Association. This award recognizes her long-term dedication to students and professionals in the ESOL field.
  • OiYan A. Poon, a faculty specialist in CHSE, received an Outstanding Book Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education for her publication, “Asian American is Not a Color: Conversations on Race, Affirmative Action, and Family.”

These awards reflect the contributions and commitment of the faculty and staff within the College of Education to the fields of education and community engagement.
