Beijing University Vice President Leads Delegation to Dunhuang Academy’s 80th Anniversary and Inaugural Fan Jinshi Scholarship Ceremony

From September 23 to 24, Wang Bo, the Executive Vice President and Provost of Peking University, led a delegation to Dunhuang, Gansu Province, to participate in the 80th anniversary symposium of the Dunhuang Academy and the inaugural Fan Jinshi Scholarship ceremony. Among the attendees were Xie Bing, the Deputy Director of the National Cultural Heritage Administration; He Xiaozu, the Deputy Director of the Gansu Provincial Publicity Department and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism; Fan Jinshi, the Honorary Director of the Dunhuang Academy; Zhao Shengliang, Party Secretary; Su Bomin, the Director of the Academy; and Rong Xinjian, a Professor of History at Peking University and President of the Chinese Dunhuang and Turfan Studies Association.

Symposium Highlights

On the morning of September 23, the symposium took place at the Dunhuang Academy, where Wang Bo delivered a speech representing Peking University. He highlighted the longstanding and significant partnership between Peking University and the Dunhuang Academy. Wang noted that many scholars from Peking University, including Su Bai and Fan Jinshi, have made substantial contributions to Dunhuang studies, enhancing the preservation and transmission of Dunhuang culture. He expressed Peking University’s intent to strengthen its collaboration and exchanges with the Dunhuang Academy in the future, further aiding the preservation, research, and dissemination of Dunhuang culture.

Inaugural Fan Jinshi Scholarship Ceremony

The following day, on September 24, Wang Bo and his delegation participated in the inaugural Fan Jinshi Scholarship award ceremony at the Dunhuang Academy, where they had the opportunity to meet Ms. Fan Jinshi. Wang commended Ms. Fan for generously donating scholarship funds from her own savings to her alma mater, expressing hope that the recipients would strive to inherit and uphold the rich cultural legacy she has created. During the event, Ms. Fan awarded the scholarships and motivated the students to aspire to excel in promoting outstanding traditional Chinese culture and contributing to the establishment of a culturally strong nation.

Event Attendees

Representatives from various relevant units in Gansu Province, the Dunhuang Academy, as well as scholars and experts from Peking University’s Department of History, College of Archaeology and Museology, Department of Philosophy, College of Foreign Languages, College of Arts, Domestic Cooperation Committee Office, and the Education Foundation were in attendance at the events.
