Chancellor Mildred García of California State University (CSU) has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH). This organization encompasses more than 700 universities across the United States, serving over 8 million students.
Role and Intentions
García was nominated by members of NASH and acknowledged the critical role that higher education systems play in providing opportunities for all students. She expressed her intent to collaborate with other board members to promote innovation, accessibility, and student success throughout the nation.
Historic Appointment
Since her appointment as chancellor in October 2023, García has made history as the first Latina to lead a four-year public university system in the United States, as well as the first Latina chancellor of CSU. Prior to her current position, she served as president of CSU Dominguez Hills and Cal State Fullerton, in addition to her leadership role at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
