Plainfield High School has undergone significant renovations to its auditorium, alongside the addition of an esports gaming arena and a black box theater. This development involved collaboration with PureTek Group, a New Jersey-based provider of technology solutions for educational environments. To enhance communication among these newly established spaces, the school has adopted Pliant Technologies’ CrewCom professional wireless intercom system.
Effective Communication in Chaotic Scenarios
According to Dan Litvin, co-founder and president of PureTek Group, the CrewCom system was chosen due to its ability to streamline communication in potentially chaotic scenarios. The system is versatile, suitable for various applications ranging from theatrical productions to managing technology across different areas within the school.
Upgraded Intercom System Features
The upgraded intercom system includes a CrewCom 2+2 Control Unit, three CrewCom 900MHz Radio Transceivers, and several CrewCom Radio Packs equipped with SmartBoom PRO headsets. This setup facilitates effective communication throughout the school’s infrastructure.
Addressing Geographical Challenges
The school’s geographical layout posed unique challenges, as the esports arena and auditorium are located several rooms apart. Litvin underscored the need for reliable communication to support collaborative efforts, particularly for events like tournaments that require coordination across various locations.
Multi-Channel Communication Capability
An additional benefit of the CrewCom system is its ability to manage multiple communication channels. Litvin acknowledged the usefulness of this feature, especially during transitions between different communication requirements when staff need to interact with multiple teams at the same time.
Positive Feedback on Audio Quality
Feedback on the audio quality of the headsets has been largely positive, with reports indicating that communication clarity remains high even in loud environments, allowing for discreet conversations during performances.
Incorporating Production Elements into Curriculum
Plainfield High School plans to incorporate production elements into its curriculum this academic year, utilizing the new technology to provide students with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment. Jean Gordon, Chief of Instruction and Programs at Plainfield Public Schools, noted the importance of these opportunities, emphasizing the valuable skills students will acquire, which will benefit them beyond their school experience.
Future Plans for Facility Rentals
Looking ahead, the school also aims to rent out its newly upgraded facilities, a prospect deemed feasible by Litvin due to the professionalism and flexibility provided by the Pliant system.
