Imperial College London and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have established a significant research partnership aimed at enhancing collaborative research efforts. This three-year initiative will enable both institutions to explore early-stage research projects and innovative ideas that may not have been thoroughly investigated before.
Research Initiatives Across Various Fields
The partnership will emphasize research initiatives across various fields, including health, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and the digital economy. It will facilitate the mobility of researchers and students, allowing participants to gain experience in each other’s laboratories in London and Singapore. The collaboration aims to promote joint projects and knowledge sharing between the institutions.
Formal Agreement Announcement
The agreement was formally established during a visit to NUS by Imperial’s President, Professor Hugh Brady. He noted the potential of the partnership to address global challenges through innovative research.
Enhancing Research Capabilities
Professor Brady highlighted the importance of the collaboration in enhancing research capabilities and providing opportunities for faculty and students to expand their international exposure and networks.
Commitment to Strengthening Ties
Similarly, Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of NUS, expressed a commitment to strengthening ties with Imperial College London. He underscored the significance of the partnership for driving impactful research and fostering robust professional networks among scholars.
Previous Collaborations
Previously, the two universities have successfully collaborated on various projects, including engineering baker’s yeast to produce ingredients for dementia medications. This new partnership is anticipated to further enhance research cooperation between the UK and Singapore.
Inaugural Overseas Research Hub
In early 2024, Imperial College London launched its inaugural overseas research and innovation hub in Singapore, intended to strengthen bilateral research efforts. This hub aims to facilitate collaboration among university, industry, government, and non-profit partners, promoting the swift application of scientific advancements for societal benefit and commercialization within Southeast Asia.
