INTI International University Hosts 7th Annual International Conference on Innovation and Technopreneurship for Sustainable Development Goals

INTI International University’s Faculty of Data Science & Information Technology recently organized the International Conference on Innovation and Technopreneurship (ICIT) 2024. This two-day event was conducted on September 26-27, 2024, with a key focus on the importance of innovation in furthering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference theme was “Adopting Innovation and Transformation to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals.”

Global Collaboration and Critical Issues

The conference brought together global experts to examine how technological advancements and industry transformations can tackle critical issues such as climate change and educational inequality. Participants highlighted the need for integrating innovative practices to promote sustainability across various sectors.

Opening Remarks by the Conference Chair

In the opening remarks, Conference Chair Professor Ir. Dr. Malathy Batumalay emphasized the relevance of the conference theme, stating that transformative practices within industries can lead to meaningful progress toward achieving the SDGs. She noted that INTI is progressing toward becoming a research university, with select papers from the conference being eligible for publication in a SCOPUS-indexed journal.

Focus on Green Technologies

A significant focus of the discussions was on the adoption of green technologies and sustainable practices, in light of the increasing pressure on corporations and nations to reduce their carbon footprints. Experts shared insights into the latest developments in renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly technologies, which are expected to deliver both economic and social benefits while addressing environmental challenges.

Professor Wong Ling Shing, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, reflected on the collaborative efforts that have developed since the conference’s inception seven years ago. He noted the diverse international partnerships that have emerged through these events, emphasizing the imperative of sustainability and the opportunity to showcase technological, innovative, and entrepreneurial advancements that can contribute to a sustainable future.

Digital Transformation in Education

The conference also explored the theme of digital transformation in education, focusing on the impact of digital tools and artificial intelligence in reshaping global educational systems. Discussions prioritized ensuring equitable access to emerging technologies for underserved communities, aiming to narrow educational disparities.

Promoting International Collaboration

Additionally, the event promoted international collaboration by convening various stakeholders, including academic institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers. Contributions from partners such as the Malaysian Board of Technologists (MBOT), the Institute of Engineering & Technology, and several Indian institutions enriched the discussions.

Emphasizing Collaborative Efforts for SDGs

The theme of collaboration was prevalent throughout the event, with participants acknowledging that achieving the SDGs requires collective efforts across multiple sectors and regions. The Best Collaborators Award was presented to institutions such as AMET University for submitting 32 full papers and Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management for their substantial contributions.
