Understanding the impacts of synchronous online learning (SOL) environments on student career readiness is vital in today’s educational and professional landscape.
Student Perceptions of Synchronous Online Learning in Relation to Career Readiness
Synchronous online learning (SOL) environments have introduced significant changes to the educational landscape, yet their role in preparing students for the workforce remains inadequately explored. A recent study examined the impact of SOL on students’ career readiness, with a focus on the development of crucial professional skills such as digital literacy and interpersonal communication.
Research Methodology
The study involved in-depth interviews with 27 third- and fourth-year students, analyzed through thematic qualitative research methods. The findings revealed that while SOL enhances technical skills and digital adaptability, it is less effective in developing interpersonal skills and providing practical, hands-on experiences. Participants reported diminished networking opportunities and expressed concerns about their readiness for real-world job demands.
Implications for Educational Innovations
