The Warren Forest Higher Education Council recently organized a career fair aimed at high school students in Warren and Forest counties. Held at the Warren County School District Central Office, the event sought to provide students with insights into educational and career opportunities that may follow high school graduation.
Event Overview
The fair drew over 700 students from several high schools, including Warren Area, Eisenhower, Sheffield, Youngsville, Tidioute Charter, and East and West Forest high schools. Participants were able to engage with more than 50 representatives from colleges and local employers, fostering discussions regarding higher education pathways and immediate workforce entry.
Significance of the Fair
Angela Bigelow, assistant director of the Warren Forest Higher Education Council, emphasized the significance of providing multiple options for students, particularly those inclined to enter the workforce directly after graduation. She expressed hope that attendees gathered valuable information to aid them in making informed decisions about their futures.
Financial Aid Session
In addition to the career fair, the council collaborated with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency to offer a session focused on making college more affordable. This session attracted over 70 attendees, who received information on financial solutions, including local scholarship opportunities sponsored by the Community Foundation of Warren County.
Future Events
The Warren Forest Higher Education Council plans to host several future events designed to assist students and families in the transition to higher education. Among these is a FAFSA Completion Event scheduled for January 14, aimed at helping families navigate financial aid applications. Additionally, a workshop titled “Navigating Local Scholarships: Applications and Essay Tips” will take place on February 1. Details for registration will be made available online and by phone starting at the end of November.
